Marketing Tips for Your Ecommerce Business

When you’re trying to grow an ecommerce business, marketing is essential. From focusing on an email list to evaluating the results on a consistent basis, there are several steps you can follow to make the process easier.

Consider the Following Marketing Tips for Your Ecommerce Company

#1. Grow Your Email List

Many ecommerce companies rely on external platforms like Facebook or Twitter to advertise their products and neglect their email list. However, this can be a dangerous strategy because you don’t own these platforms and can’t control them.

If you want to maximize revenue and create loyal customers, it’s crucial to focus on your email list. Make sure you have opt-in forms in strategic places on the website, create good exit-intent pop-ups to capture subscribers and send updates on a regular basis, so your email list stays engaged. In addition, use programs like OptinMonster’s A/B testing to compare which pop-ups work better and optimize them.

#2. Evaluate Your Results Consistently

There is no point in doing marketing if you don’t stop and examine the results to tweak them on a consistent basis. Without a built-in evaluation system, you won’t be able to tell which method is working. Having a system in place will make this easier. For example, you can use Shopify’s POS system to generate marketing reports automatically, along with detailed sales and customer reports, which will save you time.

#3. Create Loyalty Programs

It’s easier to get an old customer to buy from you again than being able to convince a new customer to make a purchase. This is why loyalty programs are often so successful. However, ecommerce businesses can’t use the cheap, little punch cards to track purchases and offer rewards. Instead, you need software like AppVirality to create an online program. With options available for the web and mobile apps, you can make sure customers always feel appreciated and stay loyal.

#4. Personalize Everything

There is nothing worse than sending an email to a customer that says dear sir or madam. Your marketing has to feel personal, even if it’s automated. From making sure every email features the customer’s name several times to making the brand message relevant, this strategy can help with retention and conversion.

Some easy ways to implement it include giving product recommendations based on their past and current shopping habits, sending emails on their birthdays and making offers in real-time while they’re browsing your website.

#5. Consider Offering Free Shipping

Free shipping is a controversial topic for many ecommerce businesses. Some refuse to offer it, while others love it. However, one of the main reasons people abandon their carts online and don’t buy is because of expensive shipping costs. To prevent this, consider offering free shipping, but charge enough for your products to cover it. Your customers won’t know that the products they’re buying cost a little more because you’re covering shipping.

Wrap up

There are many ways to implement effective marketing strategies for an ecommerce business. Try these tips and keep experimenting to find the ones that are right for you.

Especially dangerous nowadays, with Facebook and Twitter banning and deleting pages seemingly on a whim. YouTube as well. I’m not saying you shouldn’t use these platforms, but you should always have a backup plan, something that you have complete control over that can’t be destroyed with the wave of a hand from some giant tech corporation.
