The Business Trick Everyone's Keeping Secret - Interviews!

Interviews. That’s right; interviews are the one essential business trick everyone is keeping secret.

Smart business owners know that using interviews is a great way of talking to their employees about certain issues in a professional manner.

It can benefit your business as they keep everyone in check and ensure you’re managing your employees more effectively. Bearing that in mind-

#1. Performance Interviews

A performance interview is a great way for you to have some one-on-one time with your employees.

In some cases, this might be the first time you’ve been alone with an employee since you conducted the interview to hire them.

With a performance interview, you can talk about each person’s performance in your business.

  • Are they living up to expectations?

  • What are they doing well and what are they doing wrong?

You can chat with them about life at the company and how they’re finding things.

Ask them what they feel their strengths are and how they’re helping the business move forwards.

It’s also a great opportunity for them to ask you any questions that have been on their mind regarding their role, etc.

Performance interviews help you keep everyone on track and provide your staff with important feedback.

It keeps them on their toes, as no one wants to have a performance interview that goes badly. As such, it encourages them to work as hard as possible.

#2. Absence Interviews

Yes, you can even conduct interviews when your employees have been absent.

It’s a great way of scaring them a little, and showing them how serious an unscheduled absence is.

With a return to work interview, you can prevent future absences from happening, and keep your workforce in check.

Also, they’re great for employees that have taken long-term absences and are preparing to come back to work.

In most cases, long-term absences are very personal affairs. With an interview, you can welcome them back to the company and see how they’re doing, etc.

It’s also an opportunity to provide information on anything that have changed since their absence started.

This can make a long-term absentee feel more welcomed back to the company and help them hit the ground running.

#3. Group Interviews

Group interviews are similar to performance, in that you will be talking to your team about their work. The difference is that they’re not one-on-one; you bring in a whole team all at the same time.

What are the benefits of this?

It allows you to see the team dynamic in front of your eyes.

In a group interview, it will be clear who sees themselves as the true leader in the group, as they’ll be the most talkative.

This can be useful if you’re thinking about promoting one person from a group. Plus, it’s the best way to ensure all team members are on the same page and clear about their roles.

A great way to make sure all the separate teams in your business are working together effectively.

Regularly schedule interviews to keep everyone on their toes and encourage your employees to work better together and as individuals.

Interviews also help you convey the seriousness of issues such as unauthorised absences.
